CSK vs DC- Delhi Capital Comes Up Against TATA IPL 2025 So Far on 17 against Super Kings at 183/6
Date: April 5, 2025
Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai
Tournament: TATA IPL 2025
In a high-octane clash at MA Chidambaram Stadium, The Delhi Capitals (DC) scored 183 runs with the loss of 6 wickets with some aggressive batting against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 17 of the TATA IPL 2025. After winning the toss, they decided to bat first, and aggressive batting , led by KL Rahul, who scored a brilliant 77-run off 51-ball, demostrated both counter-attacking and stubborn batting. DC experienced a poor start as well as a late collapse. CSK, the home team, was given yet another set-up for an enticing chase when the Chepauk stadium came alive. With Abhijeet Bengeri and Parashar Joshi donned the caps of field umpires, and Vinod Seshan took up the role of third umpire, and Prakash Bhatt was the referee.
Analysis of DC’s Batting Performance
For DC, the good news of starting their innings was immediately eradicated by the bad news of Jake Fraser-McGurk naught capturing a duck as he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin off the very first delivery bowled to him by Khaleel Ahmed (0.5 overs) making the score 0/1. A second-wicket recovery with a partnership of 54 runs came along due to KL Rahul’s and Abishek Porel’s efforts of which the later contributed a quickfire 33 off 20 balls (4 fours, 1 six, SR: 165.00) only to get caught by Matheesha Pathiran off Ravindra Jadeja in the 6.5 over making the score 54/2.
Rahul, who was moved up in the batting order to assume the dual role of a wicketkeeper batsman, single handedly carried the innings with an impressive knock of 77 runs off 51 balld (6 fours and 3 sixes at a strike rate of 150.98). He was aided by Axar Patel (21 runs off 14 balls, 2 fours, 1 six, SR: 150.00) who was dismissed to Noor Ahmad in 10.4 overs making the score 90/3 and later by Sameer Rizvi (20 runs off 15 balls, 1 four, 1 six, SR: 133.33) who was out to Khaleel Ahmed in 16.1 overs making the score 146/4. The fifth wicket fell in the form of rahul in the 19.2 over caught by MS Dhoni off the delivery of Matheesha Pathiran for 179/5, which also ended a partnership of 56 runs with rizvi.
The 19.3 over mark had the score 180/6 where Tristan Stubbs was able to achieve 24 runs from 12 balls (which included 2 fours and 1 six, SR: 200.00) while Vipraj Nigam contributed 1 run off 2 balls. The DC team also contributed for 6 extras in the form of 5 wides and 1 leg bye bringing the total to a commendable 183/6.
Major Collaborations And The Decline Of Wickets
- 1-0 (Jake Fraser-McGurk, 0.5 ov): Marked the first loss, suffering from a very early loss.
- 2-54 (Abishek Porel, 6.5 ov): Amazing partnership of 54 runs partnered with Rahul.
- 3-90 (Axar Patel, 10.4 ov): Coming in to support Rahul with a 36 run partnership.
- 4-146 (Sameer Rizvi, 16.1 ov): Succeeding with Rahul with a 56 partnership with Rahul.
- 5-179 (KL Rahul, 19.2 ov): Addition of 33 runs to the score with Stubbs ahead of his departure.
- 6-180 (Ashutosh Sharma, 19.3 ov): Sadly an unfortunate run out to end the innings.
CSK’s Bowling Efforts
CSK’s future enhancement of bowlling performance includes Pathirana’s last over where he left the innings early (4 overs, 31 runs, 1 wicket). Along with Pathirana, Khaleel Ahmed will also be credited as the spearhead CSK’s rotation for this match with 4 overs, 25 runs, 2 wickets with deparing Fraser-McGurk and Rizvi as the head openers. Ahmed wasn’t done, however. He also removed Rahul, but was countered by one of his own thanks to Ravindra Jadeja who also had Porel peppered with the most runs in 2 overs, 19. Noor Ahmad entered the fray and removed the dominating spinners by subbing out Porel at a high cost of 36 runs, but he managed 3 overs as well. But Mukesh Choudhary was the loosest ever economically with 4 overs, 50 runs and 0 kills on the scoreboard. Ashwin was less effective than his counterparts Ahmed and Choudhary (3 overs, 21 runs, no wickets) and took two other bowlers with him who impacted the team’s economy.
Context Heading Focus
Ending the form bubble combo CSK is stuck in, Stubbs and Rahul’s 6s and 4s together earned Delhi 183 runs alongside dominating halves.
This is a danger for the later stages of the game as the pitch that ‘Out of the Blue’ Dhoni will be hoping is kind to the home team’s openers. Dhoni has hinted that he has grand plans for if Ruturaj really does take over and remove his name as captain. It is yet to be decided if he can take them out of the catch 22 situation of gratitude shoving fans have put them in because of their frustrating off season form. Save the date because I have a target in mind for a game that will be not just a quite, one-sided affair, but fully, only, simply so a spectacle for the audience.
All of this happens during IPL 2025, where live commentary and pre and post match discussion on the topic will all be found at MA Chidambaram Stadium so stay tuned.

Chennai Super Kings came up agonizingly short of the target in a 158/5 loss to Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 thriller.
In yet another twist of a dramatical saga that unfolds at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed a dismal total of 158/5 in 20 overs while chasing Delhi Capitals’ (DC) 183/6 in Match 17 of the TATA IPL 2025. CSK’s innings fell short of the mark, losing by 25 runs, decimating hopes of emerging victorious . With DC closing in on a much needed win after their collapse earlier in the season, a blistering Vijay Shankar innings of 69 run alongside shattering strikes from MS Dhoni (30) shoved the team into the realm of hope, albeit futile. Officiated by on-field umpires Abhijeet Bengeri and Parashar Joshi, with Vinod Seshan as third umpire and Prakash Bhatt as referee, CSK’s latest defeat showcased another brutal choke by the franchise while concurrently surrendering supremacy to their rivals with a commanding showing of bowling marking yet another defeat for CSK at the hands of their rivals Chepauk
The Incidents Involving CSK Batting
The CSK batting started slowly as Ravindra fell to Mukesh Kumar in the 2nd over after scoring just 3 runs off 6 balls. CSK had lost their first wicket at 14 runs in the 1.5 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the CSK captain, soon followed for 5 off 4 balls as he was caught by J. Fraser-McGurk off a Starc delivery in the 2.3rd over at the score of 20 for 2. Devon Conway contributed 13 runs to the score off 14 balls and 1 four before he fell prey to Axar’s catch by VIP Riy Nigam in the 5.3 overs for 41/3. It is clear from the statistics shown above that CSK has been in troublesome situations quite early on.
Vijay Shankar has probably played one of the best innings in his career by scoring 69 off 54 balls with 5 fours and 1 six whilst claiming the highest strike rate of 127.78. He helped stabilize the innings following the top-order collapse.
Shivam Dube contributed 18 runs off 15 balls including 1 boundary and 1 six before getting caught by Tristen Stubbs off a Vipraj Nigam delivery in the 9.2 over for a team score of 65/4. Ravindra Jadeja’s stay ended far too quickly again with 2 runs off 3 balls and was LBW to Kuldeep Yadav in the 10.4 over for 74/5. No 7 in the batting line up is MS Dhoni who finished not out on 30 runs off 26 balls stricking one four and one six and achieving 115.38. Wasting time Dhoni provided a late flourish which proved useless and useless to the target CSK are looking to achieve. Not to forget the over two no balls and 10 wides to low 18 extras enabled CSK to draw close to the target of 200 runs.
DC’s Bowling Effort
V. Nigam was the spearhead of the Delhi Capitals’ bowling unit and took the important wickets of Conway and Dube in a spell of 4-0-27-2. Mitchell Starc (4-0-27-1) took Gaikwad’s scalp while Kuldeep Yadav (4-0-30-1) crucially removed Jadeja with a lbw. Mukesh Kumar (4-0-36-1) and Mohit Sharma (3-0-27-0) complemented the attack, as did Axar Patel (1-0-5-0) who was parsimonious with the ball in a single over. The bowlers made full use of the Chepauk pitch which had detectable turn and bounce, preventing CSK from accelerating during the middle overs.
Match Description
CSK’s Shankar performed well but fell short of achieving Dhoni’s expectations, scoring 158/5, which is less than D’s dominant 183 which indicates that their bowlers did a great job. CSK now faces a tough situation with their campaign while Guikwad’s form still remains a concern, Chidambaram will be hoping to see some positive changes from CSK, which can help them solve their problems, meanwhile D’s win has really helped them get good points in the table.
